THIS is what a TRUE Collector's edition game is.
Not like most of the regular crap nowadays where it's just some dlc, a steelbook case, and a statue.
This version of Diablo II is housed in a MASSIVE, beautiful looking box and contains the following:
- Collector's edition game discs
- Large Collector's edition manual with diffrent cover artwork with the first/last page of the inner cover being autographed by the entire D2 team
- Diablo II Soundtrack
- DVD with all of the ingame cutscenes, entirely remastered and merged together to make it a 20 minute mini movie
- An entire Diablo II Themed Dungeons and Dragons game set, complete with game pieces, rule book, character sheets, dice, literally everything.
The box is beautiful and great for displaying.
The ONLY thing is that I wish it also had its expansion pack, Lord of Destruction, bundled with it, but that's really nobody's fault considering they didn't even release that until a year later, and it's always been easy to obtain.
The game itself: if you have never played Diablo II, you owe it to yourself to play this amazing masterpiece of a game.
Everything is so perfectly done, and it's aged extremely well. The game being as old as it is, will run on practically any modern PC.
If you don't want to dish out a ton of money for this one, just go to walmart and grab the 'Diablo II Battlechest' considering it's one of the few PC games they still sell. (This also includes its also amazing expansion pack; Lord Of Destruction) Which is also pretty damn surprising considering its age (again) and the fact that it's one of only games that are over a year old and STILL being sold there (with the other 3, as of right now in late 2017, it's sequel, Diablo III, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Fallout 4).
The reason being a pretty significant amout of people still play it.
I can try playing this at 3 in the morning and still have another 20-30 people playing it. (again, very surprising considering it's age and the fact it hasn't died out yet)
but going back to the game itself, it's a very well made game. Everything flows together well, the worlds, the enemies, and ESPECIALLY the character progression. The skills and proporties are MUCH more customizable than Diablo III. Unlike in that one, you can actually pick the different skills you want to learn, and the points to each attribute that you want to distribute to your character (Strength, dexterity, etc)
The character classes and atmosphere as a whole have a much darker atmosphere than Diablo III.
I don't want to compare it too much to D3, but since that's the game most people have played, I'm saying this to explain why I think it still is a much better game. D3 is a great game on its own, but I don't think it could surpass this, and many other people that have played both seem to agree.
I don't want to write an entire article on this, but if you made it up to this point in my review and you haven't played it, please do yourself a favor and PLAY THIS GAME HOWEVER YOU CAN.
It's very well worth your time, and you will get MASSIVE amounts of replay value from it, so you'll definitely be getting your money's worth out of it. This is considered one of the best ARPG's ever made, and it's for good reason.
Unless you're extremely hard to impress/entertain, you won't be disappointed.
